CAKTUSNEW RELEASE OUT: Caktus x OJKOS: Øyeblikk (29. May 2026)
“Danish composer and saxophonist Maria Dybbroe delivers a haunting and cinematic jazz experience with Øyeblikk, blending improvisation, classical textures and emotional storytelling into one of the most compelling Scandinavian releases of the year.”
Paris Move (FR)
“Øyeblikk is a multifaceted, bold, and exceptionally poetic album.
It demands attention, but in return offers a musical experience that lingers long after the last listen and reveals new details with each subsequent listen.”
Jazz-fun (DE)
Caktus “expands their original vision without losing the artistic balance between structure, freedom, and intimacy”,
Era Jazzu (PL)
“'Øyeblikk' is a genuinely inspired piece of art - inspired in its musical scope and inspired through its very essence and motivational themes.” Blue in Green (UK)
“The beautiful "Kalvøya," with its early morning strings bathed in the lazy sunshine of a Scandinavian spring, is a prime example of this captivating music—highly crafted yet simple and direct.”
Citizen Jazz (FR)
Caktus is a captivating liveband blending composition and improvisation effortlessly. The group was formed in Aarhus, Denmark in 2017, and has since then played more than 70 concerts around Scandinavia and had their music performed by Danish Radio Bigband as well as Oslo Jazz Composers Orchestra - OJKOS, which led to the release of the album ‘Øyeblikk’ in May 2026, released on Sonic Transmission Records.
Caktus’ second album 'Flimrende', released in 2023 was by critics called 'a masterpiece', and their debut release 'Under Solen' also received many praises along the way, e.g. a nomination at The Danish Critic’s Prize (Steppeulven) as 'Composer of the Year', and a nomination for 'Album of the Year' at the Danish Music Awards Jazz in 2021.
In 2027 a new quintet album will be released with the title ‘Inntill’.
Øyeblikk by Caktus x OJKOS
Caktus is one of the most distinctive younger bands on the Scandinavian jazz scene. They have a completely unique lineup and sound that mixes chamber music and grooves, and with their cinematic music they take the listener on a sensory journey through diverse landscapes and moods. The music meanders organically and dynamically through both fragile and expressive passages - beauty and abstraction. It is the acoustic sound that is in focus, the harmony of the instruments and the condensed interpretation and use of elasticity in the compositions.
Maria Dybbroe – alto saxophone & composition
Zeki Jindyl - alto saxophone
Thorbjørn Kaas – cello
Frederik Hagner – double bass
Tobias Andreassen – drums

March for de civile
First single from upcoming album ‘Inntill’ with Caktus.
This composition was written during the pandemic, where governments worldwide created restrictions on the freedom of movement of their citizens, making it feel like everyone was marching to the same beat. In this tune, however, the march isn’t always steady; the pulse is challenged—sometimes coming to the fore, and other times submerged by the strings. Behind it all is a prevailing sense of beauty, and the track ends with a melancholic melody, which serves as a restorative echo of what was a challenging time for our societies.
